One Thing Leads to Another

Thank you for visiting my page. If you learn anything from me or find a post interesting, please share my blog with your friends.

One thing leads to another after you publish a novel. Whether you publish traditionally or self-publish, typing the end doesn’t end your responsibility to your book. The book won’t sell itself.

On July 24, Barry Dimick and I appeared on 1520 WBZW AM radio. Our host, Mary Flynn,  gave us the opportunity to talk about writing, writing groups, and my recent book, Cat Girl. That interview led to another opportunity.

I wish to thank Nylda Dieppa, Florida Writers Foundation Board of Directors Member, for making it possible for us to share what we learned as we prepared for the face-to-face interview, lessons we learned during the experience, and what we are doing as a follow-up to our radio interview. Why does it matter fellow authors?

Want to boost your visibility and credibility in the book world? Would you be surprised to learn old-fashioned AM/FM radio remains the biggest mass-reach medium in the United States? In fact, more than 90 percent of consumers listen to radio on a weekly basis. Come to the Maitland Library to learn why you can’t afford to ignore the radio interview when building your media platform. On August 8, my husband and I will give tips for radio interviews and discuss our recent two-hour long interview with Mary Flynn of Salem Media’s WBZW1520 AM located in Altamonte Springs. You’ll discover why radio is important to your marketing and receive advice for before you go, during the interview, and what to do following the interview. In the next few days, you can learn more by clicking on My News at www.MelodyDeanDimick.com

A radio interview could open the door to potential sales. Hope to “See you on the radio” and at the Maitland Library at 6:30 PM on August 8.

A Little Magic Behind Today

Thank you for visiting My News.

All week I’ve been saying that Barry & I will be interviewed on 1520 WBZW AM by Mary Flynn today right after the 3:15 commercial break.

By now you know who I am and that Barry Dimick is my husband. It’s time to tell you a little about fellow Florida Writers Association member, Mary Flynn. I’ll share the first paragraph of the biographical information she sent to me.

Mary is an award-winning author of fiction and poetry as well as an international conference speaker and leadership program facilitator with the Disney organization (retired). Her debut novel, Margaret Ferry, won the gold medal in fiction and two silver medals in religious and Christian writing.

Organic

Thank you for following My News.

When you think of organic, what comes to mind? Fresh vegetables? To be organic, crops must be grown without the use of synthetic pesticides, bioengineered genes (GMOs), petroleum-based fertilizers, and sewage sludge-based fertilizers. Yup, that’s what constitutes Non-Gmo.

But. Have you heard of organic poetry? I’ll be discussing organic poetry at the Florida Writers Conference

In the meantime, I’ll be writing organic poetry. It won’t be easy. Organic poetry is spontaneous. Inspiration hits and the poet writes. I like to revise. Poems are like my babies. It’s difficult for me to let one go out into the world unpolished. For the next month, I plan to write an organic poem every day.

Come to my The Art of Contemporary Poetry Workshop at the FWA Conference, and I’ll tell you why I’m leaving my comfort zone to write a poem a day. Looking for a new fun poetry experience? Join me on Friday, October 18.

Mentors

Thank you for visiting MY News.

Plato was a student of Socrates. Plato was the mentor of Aristotle. Poet Peggy Miller is my mentor. When we met for lunch yesterday, she introduced me to another poetry form. Thank you, Peggy.

I’ll be doing a workshop at the Florida Writers Conference titled “The Art of Contemporary Poetry” on Friday, October 18. I’d love to share this new-to-me genre with you.

See Me on the Radio

melodysnews:

Good Morning,

Thank you for visiting my blog. You may think I haven’t been doing anything because I haven’t been posting. The opposite is true. I’m overwhelmed. My schedule has been exciting, but busy. I’m not complaining, just explaining.

“See you on the radio” was CBS News Sunday Morning Anchor Charles Osgood’s paradoxical sign off. One day he received a letter chastising him for the absurd catch phrase. The complaint said, “Radio is for the ear…the song or spoken word.”

But is it? Osgood suggested that no television or movie screen can “compare with radio: the theatre of the mind.”

That’s how I feel about books. I picture the scenes the author depicts. Rarely, do the movies or television shows match the images I’ve pictured. How about you? Do you prefer to read a book or see the movie about the book the author wrote or both?

Regardless, I’m asking you to see Barry and me on the radio. Yes, Barry and I have been asked to join Mary Flynn on 1520 WBZW, a radio station near Altamonte Springs, Florida. Please listen in on Wednesday, July 24, as Barry talks about writing memoir, and I talk about writing in general.

In case you need a picture, here is a photo of Barry and me at the Galaxy Bookshop in Barry’s hometown, Hardwick, Vermont. We’ll be there for my book-signing event on Friday, August 16, at 4:00.
