William G. Collins, author and speaker, at Daytona Beach Writers Guild Meeting yesterday. I’m looking forward to working with William because we have the same publisher (Taylor and Seale Publishing, LLC), we both love history, and we’ve both written books with cats. I gave my mother a copy of his mystery Murder in Pharaoh’s Palace, and she loved it.
As writers, we must work together. In fact, the motto of the Florida Writers Association is Writers Helping Writers.
Our publisher, Mary Custureri, suggested we speak to writers’ groups. Do you belong to a writers’ group in Florida? I’ve done that before, but have been out of the loop because of my work with the Florida Writers Foundation. Would you like to invite a writer or writers to speak to your group? If so, please contact me. Go to www.MelodyDeanDimick.com, and click on Contact Melody.
I’m the president of the Florida Writers Foundation. a 501©(3) nonprofit formed to promote literacy. We visit schools for reading days, sponsor writing contests, donate books to underprivileged schools, and provide grants to organizations and schools for projects designed to promote literacy. Many of our writers go into schools to talk about writing, reading, and books they have written. Looking for a guest writer? Contact me. Thank you for visiting my site.
Today is World Suicide Prevention Day. Unfortunately, most of us know someone who has committed or attempted to commit suicide. My next book will attempt to reach at least a few people considering suicide and stop them because contrary to the lyrics of the theme of the 1970s hit TV show Mash, suicide is not painless.
A few actions to watch for:
Previous attempts to commit suicide
Mentioning suicide
Purchasing a gun, rope, poison, or stockpiling pills
Giving away possessions
Neglecting hygiene/dramatic changes in dress
Sad, depressed, lacking mojo
Withdrawing from friends
Alcohol or drug abuse
Taking daring risks
Recognize those signs? Call the National Hotline: 1-800-273-8255

Missed my book tour, but looking for a copy of my latest book, Cat Girl? It’s available at the Crystal Caboose in West Chazy, New York (my hometown) and at the Cassadaga Hotel in Cassadaga, Florida ( a spiritualist camp). Read it to find out why Cat Girl is for sale at a holistic center and a spiritualist camp. Hint: It may have something to do with the eerie cat on the cover.
Thrilling to be giving a copy of my latest book, CAT GIRL, to the Dodge Library in my hometown.
Want to be an author? Your work doesn’t end when you type “the end.”
You must market yourself and get your book circulating.
Barry Dimick and I at the Maitland Library Thursday, August 8. Thank you to Nylda Dieppa, the members of her writers’ group, Rik Feeney, and other guests who joined us as we discussed our radio interview. Thank you for the late-night dinner after, Rik Feeney.
Today, Maitland, Florida Public Library. Next stop, Altona Town Hall, August 15, from 11-1:00. Good grief. I’m wearing the same sweater tonight. I’ll find a new sweater for Altona. I’ll also be signing a new book. If you’re a cat lover or you’ve ever been a caregiver, Cat Girl is for you. Join me to learn why this book is for readers of all ages.
Why you? Ever wonder what it would take to get a radio interview? My husband Barry Dimick will join me tomorrow, August 8, at the Maitland Library @ 6:30 PM. Learn what he did to capture the eye of WBZW’s host Mary Flynn. He’ll also share information about our experience.
If you see Barry today, wish him a Happy Birthday. Happy Birthday, Barry.
Thank you for visiting my blog. Hope to see you tomorrow night.
